SATURDAY 5th MAY – MONDAY 7th MAY 2012
Thanks to every one who joined us at our 2012 Carnival!
Two out of three is pretty good! Rain held off for the best part of our Carnival weekend allowing us to have a sell out crowd at the barn dance and BBQ, the best turn outs for the Village Treasure Hunt we have had for many a year, a church full of music fans listening to the Westerly Show Band and another packed congregation for the Songs of Praise on the Sunday evening. The collection alone brought in over £300 for this year’s chosen charity – Frenchay Hospital Stroke Unit.
A damp bank holiday did not spoil the fun!
Although we were not quite as lucky with the weather on Carnival Monday, those of us that did don our waterproofs and umbrellas had a great day. The entertainment went largely to plan and the crowds loved it. The stall holders were not too put off by the weather and were jolly throughout the day and all went home with lots of money for their own charities. A huge CONGRATULATIONS and a pat on the back to all those involved. The Carnival Committee wish to thank everyone for the help and support received over the Carnival weekend. Without all of you this wonderful weekend just would not happen.
Thanks to all those that helped!
A special thank you to all those who gave up an hour of their time on Carnival Monday, to man the bollards, cover the Information Table, sell raffle tickets and man the Carnival Fundraising Stall. We must not forget all the ladies and gentlemen who served hot food and beverages, lunches and the delicious Cream Teas – thank you. So much work is involved, in printing and delivering posters and notices, selling raffle tickets and programmes, etc. (special thanks to Andy Bebb, Anthê Evans, Sue Hayward, Fred and Martin) we are grateful for all the help you offer each year.
We must say how much we appreciate the hard work of Fred and Martin. They work tirelessly putting all the tables out ready for collection in the morning by the charities; making sure the restriction bollards and the “no parking” signs are in the right place, as requested by the Authorities. One person we must never forget, of course, is Connie Jarvis, the Carnival Secretary, who works extremely hard behind the scenes booking entertainment, writing and telephoning stall holders, arranging insurance cover, etc. etc.. The list is endless. Every member of the Carnival Committee gives up hours of their precious time to make the weekend a success. A huge thank you to them all.
We are already making plans for our Autumn and Spring concerts. Watch this space! Many thanks again and see you soon.
